ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

Golden Eagle Audubon Society (GEAS) is dedicated to building an understanding, appreciation, and respect for the natural world in order to conserve ecosystems for birds and other wildlife. GEAS has been an active, if small, environmental non-profit in the Treasure Valley for more than 35 years. We seek to hire a part-time independent contractor to increase our all-volunteer organization’s capacity.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

To support the mission and strategic plan of GEAS by providing services and support to develop and maintain outreach, social media and website activities, assist in volunteer coordination, attend and coordinate GEAS participation in events, build community relationships, and fundraise as may be determined by the Board of Directors. This position will work collaboratively with, and report to, the Board of Directors.

 

SCHEDULE SUMMARY:

Average hours per week = 15-20, contract 1099 with no benefits; flexible with both day and evening hours and occasional weekend hours sometimes required; weekly hours vary depending on program and Board needs. A work from home position except for events.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Personal - Outgoing, energetic go-getter, experience leading/coordinating small groups, directing activities; availability to attend occasional evening &/or weekend programs/events.

  • Work Ethic - Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Computers – Basic comfort with desktop and web-based computing. Experience withWord, Excel, PowerPoint. General understanding of database operations.

  • Web – Familiarity with web, web forms and tools, basic data management operations; website development in user-friendly environment (no programming required).

  • Communication – Excellent customer service and demonstrated written and oral communication skills.

  • Public Interactions – Experienced public speaker, comfortable and interactive at program settings, with attendees and approaching donors, business partners and others.

  • Commitment – Understands and is committed to our mission.

  • Mission/ Education – Bachelor’s degree or higher degree preferred (some college experience required), grant writing experience, knowledge of local (SW Idaho) fundraising and foundation environment.

 

PRIMARY ACTIVITIES (Can expect to do these duties on a weekly basis - percentages indicate estimated amount of time dedicated to each activity during the term of the contract): 

  1. Social Media/Website/Publicity: Develop, monitor, and maintain GEAS social media presence on various platforms.  Ensure that GEAS activities are advertised and posted on community calendars, websites, and publications.  Maintain and update website.  Support Newsletter completion and publication (20%).

  2. Volunteer Coordination: Continue development of GEAS volunteer opportunities and address volunteer needs for events and programming (20%).

  3. Fundraising through membership increase, grant writing, donation and endowment solicitation (20%).

  4. Close Support for Active Committees: Education, Conservation, &/or Banquet (10%).

SECONDARY ACTIVITIES (as directed/needed): 

  1. Advocacy: Assist the Board in effective advocacy campaigns that align with the GEAS mission. This may include producing content for our membership, leading letter writing campaigns, attending appropriate events/meetings, etc. (10%).

  2. Event Support: Coordinate, attend and participate in select GEAS and local events (10%).      

  3. Community Partnerships: Build and maintain organizational partnerships as needed through effective communication (10%).
