Raptor Identification Workshop with Bryce Robinson

September 23, 7:00-8:30pm on Zoom

$20 GEAS members/ $35 non-members

The proceeds of this workshop support The Red-tailed Hawk Project

Identifying birds of prey in flight represents one of the most challenging aspects of birding. However, with the proper approach, it is possible to identify even the smallest spec in the sky.

Join ornithologist and illustrator Bryce Robinson for a workshop on in-flight raptor identification. In the workshop, Bryce will build on the basics and discuss how to approach difficult identifications such as Sharp-shinned vs. Cooper's Hawks.

Virtual Class Description

In this 1.5 hr lecture, Bryce will lay out the basics of raptor ID. He will discuss differences between the species we see during fall migration in Idaho. The class portion is designed to provide a basis for developing skills can be practiced in the field during fall migration.

Optional Field Trip

September 27, 1:00-5:00pm at Lucky Peak Observatory

Practice what you learn from Bryce's lecture in the field! This will be a great opportunity to practice your raptor identification skills in a group setting with knowledgeable leaders.

Please note that registration for the field trip is separate from the class. Space is limited and only open to GEAS Members. Register here for the Lucky Peak Field Trip.

Membership starts at just $20/year and supports our programs, education, conservation, and advocacy work.
