Monthly Program: Raptors of the World

Presentation: Raptors are important, charismatic, and often declining species; yet scientists disagree on exactly which groups of birds are raptors and how many species exist. Dr. McClure will review The Peregrine Fund’s recent work to define raptors as a group and to determine how many species there are. He will review the conservation status of raptors and the threats they face across the globe.

Presenter: Dr. Chris McClure was born and raised in Columbus, GA. He received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia, a Ph.D. from Auburn University, and conducted postdoctoral research at BSU. His research focuses on developing methods to better monitor, study, and manage birds. He has published nearly 70 scientific articles and is currently the Director of Global Conservation Science at The Peregrine Fund where he oversees all of the research and monitoring conducted by the organization.
