Shannan Brimmer
Shannan grew up in the Mojave Desert in California where she developed an early love for being outside looking for rocks, camping and spending the majority of her time in the outdoors. Shannan attended Boise State University where her focus was in Social Work, which led to obtaining a B.A. in Social Work and her Masters in Social Work. Shannan’s experience includes serving in several board positions for the Idaho chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. (Previous positions included Member at Large, Branch Chair, Vice President and President).
Shannan gained a deep appreciation for birds from her father and that has blossomed into interest in the protection of birds and other wildlife in Idaho and globally. Shannan currently leads field trips for Golden Eagle Audubon and lives with her husband in Boise where they enjoy camping, traveling, hiking, and birdwatching. Shannan looks forward to contributing more time and energy to Golden Eagle Audubon Society in advancing restoration of ecosystems to make things better for the environment and in turn the birds we all love.
Eileen Stachowski
My name is Eileen Stachowski and I grew up in upstate New York where I spent my early years being studious, playing tennis, attending math, science, and computer camp (ha!), and participating in student government. I discovered an innate passion for the environment and sustainability during my high school years, ultimately founding the environmental club and choosing to pursue environmental engineering upon graduating.
I attended Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY and focused my energies on projects such as climate impact assessments, developing K-12 climate change curriculum, environmental policy, and clean drinking water initiatives with Engineers without Borders. This is also when I first tried camping, canoeing, and hiking all under the stars of the Adirondack mountains. These experiences activated life-long passions that have only expanded since moving to Idaho over a decade ago.
My professional career has been full of variety and includes jet engine manufacturing, artisanal cheesemaking, anti-hunger non-profit work, small farms education, and data analytics. Currently, I am a shelf analyst for P&G where I analyze big data to design the store shelves you shop! I live on the Boise bench with my husband, Alex and our dog, Flora. We are currently trying to get as much skiing in as possible before the snow is gone but also looking forward to our backcountry cabin opening up!
I discovered birding about 3 years ago as a compliment to my other outdoors hobbies but it has slowly gained more prominence in my life after finding unexpected benefits. I have been shocked at the way birding enables me to be present, connect with nature, and find awe and wonder everywhere around me. I’m passionate about sharing the mission of GEAS with others and was excited to see the call for new board members. I have served on one working board and held officer positions. I’ve also worked with a lot of nonprofits in Boise and am familiar with the unique circumstances under which they operate. I believe that my enthusiasm, board experience, passion for the mission, and skill set to help with the board’s biggest opportunities (as discussed in the board interview process) would make me an excellent candidate! While I enjoy one-off volunteer opportunities, I have been waiting for the right longer-term project to arise. I certainly hope this could be it! Thank you for considering me.
