About the Golden Eagle Audubon Academy

The Golden Eagle Audubon Academy is our volunteer preparation program. Many of our volunteer responsibilities require an orientation, training, or supervised practice including speaking to groups, teaching classes, leading field trips, serving on the Board of Directors and organizing community science events like the Christmas Bird Count. The Academy will provide a variety of programs throughout the year to ensure that everyone has the opportunity for a rewarding volunteer experience.

Spring 2025 - Bird by Bird Facilitator Training

This is a two-session training to prepare Bird by Bird Facilitators to start classroom volunteering in the fall.

The Academy will orient you to the successful Bird by Bird program, help you develop your skills and confidence as a classroom facilitator and connect you with other Bird by Bird volunteers.

The Bird by Bird program is dedicated to helping K-12 students connect with nature through bird watching and bird feeding at their school. Classroom facilitators are assigned a class for the school year based on their grade and location preference. Facilitators develop lesson plans to introduce students to birds and engage them in participatory science. Facilitators visit the classroom once a month to teach. Educational resources and bird feeding supplies are provided.

Bird by Bird is supported by Idaho Fish and Game, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, The World Center for Birds of Prey and business partner Wild Birds Unlimited - Boise.

Space is limited. Golden Eagle Audubon Society membership is required.

The Academy training will be held May 14 and May 28 from 10 am - 12:00 pm at the Idaho Fish and Game Headquarters at 600 S Walnut St, Boise ID. You need to attend each session.

This a good fit for you if you answer “Yes” to the following:

  • I like kids and birds.

  • I’m ready to learn.

  • I can attend the two training sessions and do the homework.

  • I am available to be a classroom facilitator (once a month) for the entire 25/26 school year.

Space is limited to 8 people.
